Everybody including my mom (no joke) is thinking about the senseless Sensenbrenner bill. Afterall, we were all once immigrants. My immediate family is comprised of very progressive minded and most importantly, compassionate women. They've worked and still work alongside a diverse bunch - I think that's the why.
When H.S. students in several L.A.U.S.D schools walked out my initial reaction was What!? Get back in there! How can you be so reckless with your education? Then it became, WOW! It's impressive how they got organized and brought the district to its knees. Even if in small numbers, a few of those youth really understand the idea of civil disobedience and do indeed have something to say. Was it Atlanta? Apparently a school district over on that side of the world decided to count student protests as community service as long as they protest alongside district approved community based organizations. That's what I'd call a social justice education.
