Distractions

Looking back at my posts, I realize that I haven't yet commented on the May day protests. In fact, to be quite honest, I haven't thought about it, read about it, talked about it yet. Since then, I've had many distractions - personal, intellectual, politcal, work - so much so that I've lost sleep just to keep up with them.

This is troubling and therefore intriging.

With so much going on, where is the solid ground? How long do I ever spend with a particular interest before I'm swept up by the next? And is there anything wrong with that? I'm leaning towards I don't think so even if it may be more realistic to admit defeat and say I don't know.

I find it useful lately to simply say: it's all connected. When I consider that everything and everyone is connected, I feel more at ease to move forward with what I am doing in any moment.

I'm reading Michael Pollan's new book "The Omnivore's Dilemma - A Natural History of Four Meals". And even though it talks primarily about sustainable farming, the meaning of organic, grass fed cows and the politics of corn - it also connects to May day, to labor, to social justice. At least in my mind...

Understanding, is like playing a game of connect the dots. So many dots, so little time. And yet you keep going so you can find out what its all gonna look like once you're done.

Hope you are doing well Tabitha! Getting ready for teaching. My friends, Suzie and Sean, went to the march that day :)
