Two of my students created this dinosaur out of jicama "fossils".
I love it when students surprise you, unexpectedly with so much attention to detail and creativity.
I also love collaboration - collaboration fostered between students when you give them the chance to work together. And of course, collaboration between teachers - my fellow classmate Susan who is also teaching 2nd grade shared this jicama fossil lesson with me and it was a hit with my students. I love knowing that teaching and learning, isn't and shouldn't be accomplished alone.
So hooray for creativity and collaboration. Watching the students pretend to be paleontologists, working together, being creative and hearing them talk about how they wished they could have eaten the jicama - made my day. Teaching rocks.

remember how great you felt this day when you're teaching next year and there are days when your students bug the hell out of you. :D
