What is the writing life?
I read Ann Patchett this weekend - the first few pages of all her published books. I spent time with her five novels, then walked over to biography and read her tribute to a fellow writer and then ironically, found her most recent book, in the self-help section.
It all started after reading a short essay she wrote entitled Paris Match. After reading and rereading it, I felt desperate to figure her out - where do her words come from? how did she become a writer? why did she become a writer? how will I, when will I, and will I begin the writing life?
Her writing is beautiful, intense - every sentence of her fiction is a big punctuation mark. And I was between getting lost in the thoughts of her characters and getting stressed thinking about what it would take to truly, passionately, and faithfully write.
What could my writing life look like? Surely, it must move beyond this blog =)
