Life is Good

That's the password for wifi here at Cafe Americano.

I love it here, for many reasons. They have great decaf Cafe Americano. It's not crowded. The music is always just right. After hours of grading or writing, I can have yummy Korean food. And on my way home, I can breathe a sigh of relief and say - life is good.

I'm parking myself here tonight for as long as they will have me so that I can write narratives, a paragraph or so, for all fifty of my seventh grader's report cards. It's incredibly time consuming, I'm tired!, and it's already dark outside! Even so, it is pretty cool. I try to imagine myself as a student and I know it would be awesome to read a personal evaluation from every one of my teachers. So it is.

I told them today, "Do you know?! Every one of your teachers for the last few nights, have been writing a personal message to each and every one of you?! Be good! Make life easy for us!"

Then I think, teachers, are awesome. My colleagues, my students, my community - are awesome. I am awesome. And on top of that, I love what I do! Most of us truly deserve every compensation that is given to us - the vacation, the pay, the pension, the benefits - and we deserve respect. Making cuts to education is unacceptable and saying that teachers are expendable is unacceptable too.

This is where I am tonight. I'm tired! It's dark outside! Life hasn't been easy lately, but when I'm looking for something to be happy about I always tell myself - life is good, I'm doing what I love.
